I have schizophrenia. Lately, I’ve been contemplating whether to be more open about it, but I’m uncertain. I suppose I’m worried about how others might respond. Has anyone else chosen to disclose their mental illness, and if they have, in your opinion, is it worthwhile to do so?

I would say be careful, lots of people suck and will treat you poorly if they find out. Honestly, it’s nobody’s business. Sadly, we can’t be open but it would make your life easier if you kept it a secret.

Opening up, being honest about your mental health issues can be good, but only to the right people. If not to the right people, it can do more harm than good.

Telling people you have depression is much different than telling them you have Schizophrenia, at least that has been my experience. Most people have experienced depression and can somewhat relate, most people have not experienced Schizophrenia, its a scary word to many.
              I’m sending my support. 💜
