I have got this “friend” from school who’s always enjoyed putting me down. It’s been their thing forever, and unfortunately, it’s cost us a few friendships along the way. But I’ve been their “victim” for years, just putting up with it. Sure, the jokes at my expense were quite funny at first, but it’s gotten old and draining.

I have decided it’s time to cut ties with these people. I don’t see them changing anytime soon, so I plan on gradually phasing myself out of their lives.

why he doing that? In my opinion, it could be due to low self-esteem or past experiences. Putting others down might be their way of coping, trying to feel important, seen, or even appreciated. A healthy individual with strong self-esteem wouldn’t feel the need to belittle others; instead, they’d uplift and support them. However, someone who’s broken may constantly feel undervalued and seek validation by putting others down (“See, I’m better than you”).

My suggestion is to try to be compassionate and understanding towards them, if possible. But if their behavior becomes unbearable for you, leaving might be the only option. Just keep in mind that there’s likely something deeper influencing their actions

i have been around many people like that, and it’s really sad. you have to find friends so very carefully; random “friends” have caused a lot of trouble in my life. I’m super picky now. I hope to hear that things are going better for you. ❤️
